Through the generous support of The Camille and Henry Dreyfus Foundation, this free, three week-long 2013 summer camp was designed to give students an early introduction to chemistry and chemistry careers. Detective Camp served students from Watson Academy for Boys and the McCullough Academy for Girls in the Gary Community School Corporation. Packaged in a forensics theme, students used chemistry to learn the real-world skills and techniques used by crime scene investigators.
The acclaimed curriculum was designed and taught by Linda Wozniewski, faculty member at IUN and National Forensics Event Supervisor and Chair of the Rules Committee for Science Olympiad. Ada Simmons, Director of the P-16 Center for Research and Collaboration at Indiana University, provided project management.
